WHY GROWTH FACTORS SHOULD BE PART OF YOUR SKIN CARE ROUTINE

WHY GROWTH FACTORS SHOULD BE PART OF YOUR SKIN CARE ROUTINE

Whether you are seeing the first signs of aging, or have more mature skin that shows wrinkles, discolorations and a loss of firmness, growth factors should be part of your skincare routine to help your skin look and act younger.

Aging, sun-damaged skin requires growth factors to maintain itself, but as we age our skin makes fewer growth factors.  Our latest innovation, Restorative Night Cream, contains a high concentration of biotechnology- sourced platelet-derived growth factors comprised of 540+ skin-important proteins and peptides to help minimize the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, brighten dark spots and firm the skin.  The growth factors we’ve utilized have a highly advanced built-in auto shut off mechanism that gives your skin the amount needed.  It’s the ultimate multi-tasking ingredient, and it perfectly complements our multi-benefit approach for your skin.

Growth factors, which are found naturally in your skin, are the cutting edge of anti-aging science because they promote collagen and elastin at the cellular level. This gives your skin the building blocks it needs to rejuvenate itself, as collagen and elastin are key components in young-looking skin.  They can be used by all skin tones and types – even sensitive skin.

In our Restorative Night Cream, we’ve paired these particular growth factors with a specially coated retinol and lactic acid in a micro-delivery system that gently releases these powerful anti-aging ingredients throughout the night while you sleep.  As we do not test our products on animals, our volunteers have reported that they’ve experienced the following results when using our Restorative Night Cream daily:

  • In 72 hours, fine lines and deeper wrinkles look softened
  • In 14 days, dark spots appear brighter
  • In 30 days, skin looked and felt firmer

Growth factors can help delay the need for injectables and also prolong their effectiveness if you’re already using them.  If you are serious about using effective skin care treatment products, growth factors should be part of your skin care routine.

Our Restorative Night Cream won’t clog pores and can be used by all skin tones and types.

FUTURE PROOFING: BUILDING COLLAGEN IN YOUR 20S TO LOOK YEARS YOUNGER IN YOUR 40S

FUTURE PROOFING: BUILDING COLLAGEN IN YOUR 20S TO LOOK YEARS YOUNGER IN YOUR 40S

Fighting wrinkles and loss of skin firmness is probably the last thing on your mind in your 20s. However, if you take a preventative approach to anti-aging, you’ll be able to look years younger in your 40s and beyond.

It’s true an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. When it comes to preventing the look of aging, including wrinkles and sagging skin, taking a few simple steps to building and preserving collagen now will yield remarkable beautiful results as you age. Why focus on collagen? Collagen is a protein that sustains the body’s structure and gives skin its look of firmness. Skin with an abundance of collagen is skin that looks smooth, firm and wrinkle-free.

One of the most important steps to building collagen while you’re young is using high percentages of AHAs such as lactic acid. This should be a cornerstone of your skincare routine because lactic acid and other AHAs boost your skin’s production of collagen. If you’re not using a high-level AHA currently, I suggest our Dramatic Transformation Cream SPF 18 which contains 10% lactic acid at the proper pH level. It also provides sun protection, which is my second tip.

Sun damage destroys collagen, leading to wrinkling, sagging skin, and dark spots. Using sun protection daily seems like a minor thing, but it really does make a difference because sun damage is cumulative. If you crave a subtle warm glow to your skin like I do, sunless tanner is the safest alternative available. Sun damage not only causes premature aging, but it also carries skin cancer risks. With so many sunless tanner options to choose from, you will find one that works with your skin tone to give you the most natural color for you.

You may be sabotaging your collagen and causing wrinkles unknowingly with your sweet tooth. Sugar makes collagen brittle, and when collagen becomes brittle, wrinkles form. I stopped eating sugars – even honey – a year ago and rarely use any sweetener, even stevia, now. It sounds challenging, the difference in how your body feels, beyond the long-term benefits for your skin, is worth it.

Finally, I recommend taking 2000-3000 mg of L-Lysine daily. L-Lysine is an amino acid that supports collagen production, healthy skin and healthy lips.

Incorporate these tips as part of your skincare lifestyle, and you will be thrilled at how young your skin looks 20 years from now.

TWO INGREDIENTS TO AVOID IF YOU WANT FLAWLESS SKIN

TWO INGREDIENTS TO AVOID IF YOU WANT FLAWLESS SKIN

Breakouts do not respect age.  That is an extremely frustrating fact that so many of us over 35 know – myself included.

I turned 46 years old in December, and I still am very careful to avoid comedogenic (pore-clogging) ingredients.  One of the primary reasons I began crafting skincare products and created VERTERE to bring them to you was because of the rampant use of pore-clogging ingredients in products that were designed for breakout-prone skin (yes, you read that correctly) and aging skin.

Breakouts continue to be on the rise well after the teenage years.  If this applies to you, there are a couple of ingredients to avoid in the skincare products and color cosmetic products you apply to your face.

Isopropyl myristate and isopropyl palmitate are used as thickening agents and emollients in cosmetic products.  For those who have never experienced clogged pores or blemishes, they can use products containing these ingredients without concern.  However, for those battling blemishes, avoid these ingredients in products applied to the face.

These ingredients can be used in facial cleansers, moisturizers, eye creams and treatments as well as makeup primers, foundations, concealers and blushes.  Taking care to toss products containing these ingredients will help your skin look clearer and reduce blemishes.

I specifically create each VERTERE product to be noncomedogenic so that it will not clog pores while still providing luxurious textures that feel decadent and fight the look of wrinkles, dark spots and imperfections at the same time.  As we age, our skin can be temperamental for many reasons which is why paying attention to these ingredient details are important.

HOW TO ADD RETIN A (TRETINOIN) INTO YOUR SKIN CARE REGIMEN

HOW TO ADD RETIN A (TRETINOIN) INTO YOUR SKIN CARE REGIMEN

HOW TO ADD RETIN A (TRETINOIN) INTO YOUR SKINCARE REGIMEN WITHOUT THE USUAL UNPLEASANT SIDE EFFECTS

Many women and men struggle with the idea of adding tretinoin to their skincare routine because of the unpleasant side effects that can be experienced. Those side effects can include flaking, peeling, redness and irritation that ranges from mild to severe (some affectionately refer to these uncomfortable aspects as the “skin uglies” that accompany tretinoin use). It can be all but impossible to wear any kind of makeup due to the flaking and peeling.

Is it impossible to avoid these negatives so that your skin doesn’t show these tell-tale signs of tretinoin use? Yes, if you follow the simple steps I’ve outlined for you below.

If you’re just beginning with tretinoin, it’s far better to ease into it than risk having tight and flaky skin from using it too aggressively. Human nature compels us to use the highest concentration and apply it nightly – that is a recipe for extreme peeling which is very uncomfortable and no makeup can disguise.

The most important thing to do is to gauge and increase your skin’s tolerance to tretinoin, so I recommend using it two nights a week (a Monday and Friday, for example) for one month to see how your skin reacts. A little flaking can be normal and your VERTERE products will help minimize that.

After that month, increase your usage to three evenings a week for a few weeks with the goal of increasing to nightly use.

Some flaking or scaliness can be normal as your skin adjusts but if you experience severe tightness or sensitivity, stop using the tretinoin until your skin returns to normal and then begin again. Everyone’s skin reacts differently so it’s important to notice how your skin looks and feels.

It’s important to use tretinoin in the evenings only because it’s light-sensitive – and you must apply it to completely dry skin. Don’t layer products containing alpha-hydroxy acids or benzoyl peroxide under or over the tretinoin. If your skin becomes extremely dry from the tretinoin, wait 15 minutes and pat an argan, jojoba or baobab oil over the tretinoin. Applying a noncomedogenic oil over the product is an important tip so that the active ingredient is in direct contact with your skin.

Continue using your VERTERE products, and apply your Dramatic Transformation Cream SPF 18 in the mornings (sunscreen is important when you’re using tretinoin). You’ll be able to avoid those “skin uglies” if you follow this advice!

Glass Skin Without the 10+ Step Hassle

Glass Skin Without the 10+ Step Hassle

Glass Skin Without the 10+ Step Hassle

Link to video: https://www.facebook.com/VERTERE/videos/304654220413183/

Glass skin is a beauty obsession.  It’s understandable – who doesn’t want glowy, translucent skin? When we asked our Instagram followers if they’re interested in having glowing glass skin without the traditional 10+ step hassle involved, the answer was overwhelmingly yes. You’ll be glad to know you can achieve that gorgeous, luminous look in two easy steps (yes, really!) and can keep it by eliminating radiance-robbing ingredients.

What steps or products in your skincare routine can prevent you from having the glass skin look you want? Anything that’s drying or stripping oils from your skin. If you have combination or oily skin, set aside oil-absorbing toners and cleansers.  They can actually cause your skin to become dehydrated, which causes your skin to push more oil to the surface to address the dryness.

Instead, focus on products that infuse moisture into your skin to balance hydration.  Moisture balance is key to achieve a glowy, dewy look to your skin without looking like you’re producing too much oil.

Both your cleanser and moisturizers should balance your skin’s moisture, providing deep hydration to satisfy dehydrated, thirsty skin. Even if you have combination or oily skin, your skin still needs some deeper level hydration to prevent surface dehydration which causes your skin to overproduce oil.

Ingredients you’ll want to avoid using over your entire face include tea tree oil.  While it is a wonderful ingredient, tea tree oil is very drying and truly best for spot treatment.

Other ingredients to avoid in cleansers and moisturizers include kaolin or other absorbent clays, peppermint oil and menthol.  Peppermint and menthol essential oils are irritating to the skin and could trigger redness as well as excessive oiliness as a result.

Glass skin is about moisture and striking that moisture balance so your skin is properly hydrated. Our two-step glass skin approach is simple and takes two minutes or less.  First, cleanse with our Refining Treatment Cleanser, which is a lotion to serum cleanser. This unique formula balances and hydrates the skin while clarifying and brightening it. You can see a subtle glow after your first use.

Second, apply our patented Dramatic Transformation Cream SPF 18. That gives a gorgeous radiance to the skin while it hydrates, smooths fine lines and wrinkles, brightens dark spots and purifies.

This is our two-step glass skin secret, and we hope it becomes your skincare secret too.

5 Beauty Sleep Secrets You Must Know for Your Best Skin

5 Beauty Sleep Secrets You Must Know for Your Best Skin

5 Beauty Sleep Secrets You Must Know for Your Best Skin

Sleep is so important for your skin and body.  As an entrepreneur, I cannot tell you how many years I deprived myself of sleep. Lack of quality sleep can negatively impact your health and skin.  Getting a great night of restful, restorative sleep involves more than just using a great night cream like our Restorative Night Cream. There’s much more to it that really helps products perform better – and it’s better for you in the long run in many ways.

My first personal beauty sleep secret is to avoid eating or drinking three hours before bed. If your body is focused on digesting food, it’s not going to be focusing its systems on repair which is what it needs to do while you’re sleeping. Cutting off liquids during that three-hour time period helps prevent waking up in the middle of the night. Any kind of disruption of your sleep is going to impact the quality of your sleep and can make you feel sleep-deprived. If you’re over 40, you’re much more sensitive to sleep disruptions of any kind. If you can’t enjoy 6-8 hours of truly restful sleep, it can begin to reflect on your skin.

While we’re in deep sleep, our body releases growth hormone, and that helps to repair and rejuvenate our skin. But if you’re waking up through the night and you’re not hitting that deep sleep cycle, your body never gets to trigger the release of growth hormone. That will cause accelerated aging.

As if the risk of not releasing growth hormone isn’t enough to prompt you to commit to getting adequate sleep, cortisol increases when we’re sleep-deprived. Cortisol triggers inflammation and inflammation triggers aging and breakouts.

My second personal beauty sleep secret is to use a weighted silk eye mask. The silk eye mask that I use has a little zipper pocket at the top so I can put flax seeds in it to provide a little bit of weight and lavender for aromatherapy and to induce relaxation. The weighted aspect not only helps the mask to stay on throughout the night, but it also provides an incredible soothing feeling similar to a weighted blanket. I recommend silk because you want a soft, non-abrasive material against your skin.

My third personal beauty sleep secret is using a humidifier in your bedroom. This makes a tremendous difference if the air in your space is dry.  It will really make a difference in how your skin feels when you wake up. I recommended this to one of my friends who also is named Bethany, and she noticed a difference overnight by adding this humidifier into her bedroom. That is a must.

Bethany:
My fourth personal beauty sleep secret is our award-winning Restorative Night Cream. It gives my skin so much bounce, firming and brightening that I can tell a difference if I get a bit lax and skip a night or two of using it. So many people told me what I wanted to create with this night cream couldn’t be done, yet I persevered and created this dream cream. It features platelet-derived growth factors, lactic acid, and other high-performance, clean ingredients and botanicals that truly make a difference in how your skin looks and feels once you wake up in the morning. If you’re doing all these other things combined, it’ll help the cream work even better for you. Any cream, any product that you’re using.

My fifth and final personal beauty secret is to train yourself to sleep on your back. If you typically sleep on your side or stomach, you might think this is impossible but I used to be a side sleeper and I trained myself to sleep on my back. The reason you want to do this is that you do develop wrinkles from the constant pressure of pushing against your skin, night after night when sleeping on your side or stomach. You’ll notice a difference in the plumpness and the firmness in the side you don’t sleep on. Train yourself to sleep on your back. It can be done – it’s worth it.

Bad Skin Days Affect More Than Your Skin

Bad Skin Days Affect More Than Your Skin

Bad Skin Days Affect More Than Your Skin

Link to video: https://www.facebook.com/VERTERE/videos/327122161309702/

It’s not surprising that having a bad skin day can make us feel a little down, but did you know that it can also impact your relationships – personal and professional?

An American Academy of Dermatology study shows the way we feel about how our skin looks impacts every area of our life, every relationship. It impacts how we show up at work. It impacts how we are in our friendships. It impacts how we are in our romantic relationships. Bad skin days are much more than skin deep.

Before I created VERTERE, I struggled with this and it was very painful and embarrassing. I did not put myself out there in the world the way I wanted to simply because I was so self-conscious about my skin.

Feeling confident and positive about how your skin looks has little to do with vanity and everything to do with how confident you can be. It impacts how you are showing up to share your gifts and talents with the world, and how you’re being in your relationships. If you are embarrassed about your skin and unhappy with the way it looks, take assurance in knowing you can change it. I am living proof – I will be 50 in 18 months and because I’m no longer embarrassed of my skin I show up in all my relationships as my authentic self.

Because of the personal pain I experienced, it’s my mission to make sure you have a great skin day every day.  To do that, it’s incredibly important to use products and ingredients that are appropriate for your skin now.  If you’re 30 and you are starting to see the first signs of wrinkles and discolorations, you won’t be able to reverse those signs of aging by using products designed for younger skin without those concerns. There are really specific changes that happen to your skin once you reach 35, and switching to products that address those changes is key.

If you are experiencing breakouts and wrinkles, you want to make sure the products you’re using won’t clog your pores while they are infusing needed moisture and treatment ingredients into your skin. Ingredients that help boost collagen are a focal point in your skincare routine once you’re in your 30s to help your skin look smoother, younger and more radiant.

Are dark spots and discolorations your main concern?  If so, avoid hydroquinone and opt for Alpha Arbutin. Alpha Arbutin is proven to be safer and more effective at brightening discolorations than hydroquinone and other lighteners.

If you’re self-conscious that your skin is starting to lose its bounce and firmness, targeted collagen boosters can make a visible difference. Lactic acid, growth factors, and retinol are just a few ingredients that can restore firmness and plumpness to the skin.

If you’re frustrated by oily skin or oily breakthrough during the day, hydration is the answer to give you skin confidence.  Often we reach for foaming cleansers or astringent toners that leave the skin dry and tight when we are doing with an oily complexion.  However, dehydrating the skin leads to skin overproducing oil.  Choosing to hydrate your skin will reduce the skin’s oiliness.

The beauty of your skin in your eyes is important because it affects how you feel inside, your self-talk, how you relate to others and how you choose to show up in the world.  Time to get glowing.

I’m Bethany Hilt, the Founder and CEO of VERTERE Skin Care, and I am here with Carina today, who is the beautiful founder of this gorgeous juice bar called Sipt. I wanted to come to you today with Carina because VERTERE uses a lot of natural ingredients in our skincare products, and those ingredients are not just good to put on your skin topically but they’re also really good for you to take internally. If you any questions, please ask and we’ll talk about a few of those natural ingredients and how they help your skin look gorgeous outside and in.

VERTERE is Latin, meaning “to turn” and our products turn around the look of the skin in 72 hours. So if that sounds interesting to you and you like natural ingredients in your skincare products, then you’ll definitely want to stay tuned.

Bethany: Tell us about Sipt and what inspired you to start Sipt and your passion about natural ingredients in juicing?

Carina:  What started the whole thing was really my lifestyle. So I really took on this whole wellness, plant-based diet and I’ve been juicing forever. I’ve been a vegetarian forever. I’ve always been very interested in what I put in my body because whatever I put in my body helps me to get clean energy,  boost my metabolism. It gives me the nutrition that I need. And I feel food is really an important part of life. So, juicing, eating the right things, farm to table. Everything about that is what I’m really about. And fitness and nutrition go hand in hand. I had been living in Miami for 14 years before I moved up here [to Cleveland]. I was searching for something like that here because in Miami fresh juices are on every corner. And of course, the weather there promotes that [healthy] lifestyle even more. I felt there was something missing here and there were not a lot of healthy options in the area. So, we decided to open a café.

Bethany:  In VERTERE’s products, one of the ingredients that we use are blueberries and blueberries applied topically are a great to help you fight premature aging because of the high antioxidant activity. There are a lot of antioxidants so it definitely benefits your skin by helping you fight those free radicals to keep your skin looking nice and smooth and younger. What happens when we’re taking blueberry internally? What’s your favorite juice that you have here at Sipt that has blueberry in it?

Carina:   Well, we have an array of different things on the menu and actually blueberries, when you ingest them, have almost the same properties. Antioxidants are very important. When you ingest fruits high in antioxidants, those properties allow your body to then create the blood flow and that shows on the outside.  Blueberries are really high in antioxidants and we actually have them as toppings, and we have them in our smoothies as well.

Bethany:  Another ingredient VERTERE uses is acai. Acai is just a phenomenal ingredient, and it’s gaining in popularity as more people become aware of it. It’s a great anti-inflammatory, and that’s so important topically because inflammation contributes to skin aging. Anytime you’re using products that might be really really harsh on your skin or you’re going out and not using sun protection, getting sunburned and experiencing lots of inflammation as a result, that can exacerbate aging, wrinkles, loss of firmness, loss of elasticity. Acai is a fantastic ingredient topically in skincare to help provide that anti-inflammation boost and give you nice, firm skin.  What about internally? What does acai do for us?

Carina: Acai is also high in antioxidants.  Your gut is a very big indicator of what’s going on in inside and that can also show on the outside if you’re not taking care of your gut, your stomach. Eating something like acai that has high antioxidants and anti-inflammatory properties will reduce inflammation of your intestines and your gut. It also promotes regularity and digestion.

Bethany:  Inflammation internally is such a huge issue. When I found out that I was intolerant to casein and gluten and cut those things out of my diet, it made a huge difference for me.

Carina:  It is a big difference. Actually, for me it was dairy. I’m a vegan and I’ve been a vegan for a year and a half now. Your gut tells you a lot about what’s going on.

Bethany:  Another ingredient that you have in your juices that we also use in our products is goji berry. Goji berry is another phenomenal antioxidant, loaded with lots of minerals that are good for the skin. It contains lots of amino acids and those help to give your skin that nice healthy tone to it. It also helps prevent premature aging because it’s such a good antioxidant.  From a juicing perspective, what would you say is a benefit of goji berry? What do you find most interesting?

Carina:  I found actually that it not only offers antioxidant properties but also has a calming element to it. When you ingest it, for example as a topping on a granola or a cereal, it does have that calming element that allows you to bring your energy level down to a nice internal balance.

Bethany: Like an adaptogenic?

Carina: Yes. Exactly.

Bethany: That’s very interesting. I think everyone watching probably feels they’re pulled in so many different directions and have way too much to do and not enough time to do it on a regular basis, which elevates stress.  That makes acai a good ingredient to add to your daily routine, not just when using our products but making sure to consume goji berries too.

Carina:  Yeah! Sprinkle them on a piece of toast with coconut butter.  That’s a great option.

Bethany: Bottom line, apply and also ingest antioxidants to help your skin look younger.  For antioxidant-rich juices and smoothies, visit at 3365 Richmond Road in Cleveland.

How to beat in-flight dehydration

How to beat in-flight dehydration

How to beat in-flight dehydration

Link to video: https://www.facebook.com/VERTERE/videos/297304431188096/

Flying is notorious for its dehydrating effect on the skin.  And no wonder – airplane cabins are actually drier than deserts.  Deserts have an annual average of 25 percent humidity while planes typically have a paltry 10 percent.

Fortunately, there are ways you can prevent your skin from being robbed of its moisture during your travels so your skin is soft and supple when you land.

The moisturizer you apply before boarding is key. It must hydrate deeply to provide your skin all-day moisture that can really last through dry cabin air. It’s important to wear SPF as well – especially if you’re sitting in a window seat.

Several flight attendants use our Dramatic Transformation Cream SPF 18 because it provides deep moisture without causing any breakouts.  It keeps the skin supple and smooth, minimizing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles that can be exacerbated by the dry air.

Hydrating internally is just as important as hydrating externally when flying. Drinking liberal amounts of water before, during and after your flight is a must.  Plain water is great, but enhanced water is better to replenish your body.  Nuun tablets contain electrolytes, which play vital roles in keeping the water balanced both inside and outside of our cells. Pop a tablet into your water bottle pre-flight and you’ll have extra protection against dehydration.

Other options that can promote a boosted hydrating effect are Smartwater, which is infused with electrolytes, or coconut water, which naturally contains multiple electrolytes.

Try to limit caffeine during your trip, which can cause you to become even more dehydrated than you would be otherwise. Be mindful that if you’re going to have that cup of coffee, make sure you chase it with water.

Snacking on water-filled fruits in-flight also gives your skin and body an extra boost of hydration. Apples, grapes, and melons are typically readily available in every concourse.

Once you arrive at your hotel, cleanse your skin to refresh and apply a manual scrub if your skin is feeling especially parched.  If you don’t have a manual scrub handy, our Refining Treatment Cleanser can be used as a flash mask in a pinch.  Just apply it to wet skin, leave it on for 10 minutes, rinse and pat skin dry. Follow with moisturizer and you’ll be good to glow.

Skincare Ingredients you can trust

Ingredients you can trust

Having ingredients you can trust in your skincare is so important for a couple of reasons. First, you want your ingredients to be high-quality so that they are actually going to deliver the proven benefits they’ve been shown to impart.

I remember when I started VERTERE, a cosmetic chemist and I chatted about the differences in ingredient quality that exist. She shared with me that she had received a sample of CoQ1ng0 from a particular supplier, which was white. CoQ10 is yellow, bright yellow, so you can imagine there was not much CoQ10 activity in what she received. That’s why I am a stickler about ingredient quality.

I’m also picky about ingredient quantity. When looking at the ingredient list on the back of a carton, you might see one that caught your eye but it’s at the very bottom of the ingredient list. Because it is in such a small quantity, it may not give you the results you’re hoping for. This is why I pack in high levels of proven, clean, natural and scientific ingredients so that you can see the benefits those ingredients have demonstrated in studies.

Having ingredients you can trust creates products you can trust and depend on. I create our products for you and me. I’m not just the Founder; I’m also a customer. These are products that I use every day.

Our products are tested on me and aestheticians, not animals.  They are proudly free of parabens, phthalates, synthetic dyes, synthetic fragrances, hydroquinone, mineral oil, and formaldehyde.  Each one features our exclusive 72-Hour Synergy to give you visible results quickly.  It matters!
