Glass skin is a beauty obsession.  It’s understandable – who doesn’t want glowy, translucent skin? When we asked our Instagram followers if they’re interested in having glowing glass skin without the traditional 10+ step hassle involved, the answer was overwhelmingly yes. You’ll be glad to know you can achieve that gorgeous, luminous look in two easy steps (yes, really!) and can keep it by eliminating radiance-robbing ingredients.

What steps or products in your skincare routine can prevent you from having the glass skin look you want? Anything that’s drying or stripping oils from your skin. If you have combination or oily skin, set aside oil-absorbing toners and cleansers.  They can actually cause your skin to become dehydrated, which causes your skin to push more oil to the surface to address the dryness.

Instead, focus on products that infuse moisture into your skin to balance hydration.  Moisture balance is key to achieve a glowy, dewy look to your skin without looking like you’re producing too much oil.

Both your cleanser and moisturizers should balance your skin’s moisture, providing deep hydration to satisfy dehydrated, thirsty skin. Even if you have combination or oily skin, your skin still needs some deeper level hydration to prevent surface dehydration which causes your skin to overproduce oil.

Ingredients you’ll want to avoid using over your entire face include tea tree oil.  While it is a wonderful ingredient, tea tree oil is very drying and truly best for spot treatment.

Other ingredients to avoid in cleansers and moisturizers include kaolin or other absorbent clays, peppermint oil and menthol.  Peppermint and menthol essential oils are irritating to the skin and could trigger redness as well as excessive oiliness as a result.

Glass skin is about moisture and striking that moisture balance so your skin is properly hydrated. Our two-step glass skin approach is simple and takes two minutes or less.  First, cleanse with our Refining Treatment Cleanser, which is a lotion to serum cleanser. This unique formula balances and hydrates the skin while clarifying and brightening it. You can see a subtle glow after your first use.

Second, apply our patented Dramatic Transformation Cream SPF 18. That gives a gorgeous radiance to the skin while it hydrates, smooths fine lines and wrinkles, brightens dark spots and purifies.

This is our two-step glass skin secret, and we hope it becomes your skincare secret too.

5 Beauty Sleep Secrets You Must Know for Your Best Skin

5 Beauty Sleep Secrets You Must Know for Your Best Skin

5 Beauty Sleep Secrets You Must Know for Your Best Skin

Sleep is so important for your skin and body.  As an entrepreneur, I cannot tell you how many years I deprived myself of sleep. Lack of quality sleep can negatively impact your health and skin.  Getting a great night of restful, restorative sleep involves more than just using a great night cream like our Restorative Night Cream. There’s much more to it that really helps products perform better – and it’s better for you in the long run in many ways.

My first personal beauty sleep secret is to avoid eating or drinking three hours before bed. If your body is focused on digesting food, it’s not going to be focusing its systems on repair which is what it needs to do while you’re sleeping. Cutting off liquids during that three-hour time period helps prevent waking up in the middle of the night. Any kind of disruption of your sleep is going to impact the quality of your sleep and can make you feel sleep-deprived. If you’re over 40, you’re much more sensitive to sleep disruptions of any kind. If you can’t enjoy 6-8 hours of truly restful sleep, it can begin to reflect on your skin.

While we’re in deep sleep, our body releases growth hormone, and that helps to repair and rejuvenate our skin. But if you’re waking up through the night and you’re not hitting that deep sleep cycle, your body never gets to trigger the release of growth hormone. That will cause accelerated aging.

As if the risk of not releasing growth hormone isn’t enough to prompt you to commit to getting adequate sleep, cortisol increases when we’re sleep-deprived. Cortisol triggers inflammation and inflammation triggers aging and breakouts.

My second personal beauty sleep secret is to use a weighted silk eye mask. The silk eye mask that I use has a little zipper pocket at the top so I can put flax seeds in it to provide a little bit of weight and lavender for aromatherapy and to induce relaxation. The weighted aspect not only helps the mask to stay on throughout the night, but it also provides an incredible soothing feeling similar to a weighted blanket. I recommend silk because you want a soft, non-abrasive material against your skin.

My third personal beauty sleep secret is using a humidifier in your bedroom. This makes a tremendous difference if the air in your space is dry.  It will really make a difference in how your skin feels when you wake up. I recommended this to one of my friends who also is named Bethany, and she noticed a difference overnight by adding this humidifier into her bedroom. That is a must.

Bethany:
My fourth personal beauty sleep secret is our award-winning Restorative Night Cream. It gives my skin so much bounce, firming and brightening that I can tell a difference if I get a bit lax and skip a night or two of using it. So many people told me what I wanted to create with this night cream couldn’t be done, yet I persevered and created this dream cream. It features platelet-derived growth factors, lactic acid, and other high-performance, clean ingredients and botanicals that truly make a difference in how your skin looks and feels once you wake up in the morning. If you’re doing all these other things combined, it’ll help the cream work even better for you. Any cream, any product that you’re using.

My fifth and final personal beauty secret is to train yourself to sleep on your back. If you typically sleep on your side or stomach, you might think this is impossible but I used to be a side sleeper and I trained myself to sleep on my back. The reason you want to do this is that you do develop wrinkles from the constant pressure of pushing against your skin, night after night when sleeping on your side or stomach. You’ll notice a difference in the plumpness and the firmness in the side you don’t sleep on. Train yourself to sleep on your back. It can be done – it’s worth it.

Bad Skin Days Affect More Than Your Skin

Bad Skin Days Affect More Than Your Skin

Bad Skin Days Affect More Than Your Skin

It’s not surprising that having a bad skin day can make us feel a little down, but did you know that it can also impact your relationships – personal and professional?

An American Academy of Dermatology study shows the way we feel about how our skin looks impacts every area of our life, every relationship. It impacts how we show up at work. It impacts how we are in our friendships. It impacts how we are in our romantic relationships. Bad skin days are much more than skin deep.

Before I created VERTERE, I struggled with this and it was very painful and embarrassing. I did not put myself out there in the world the way I wanted to simply because I was so self-conscious about my skin.

Feeling confident and positive about how your skin looks has little to do with vanity and everything to do with how confident you can be. It impacts how you are showing up to share your gifts and talents with the world, and how you’re being in your relationships. If you are embarrassed about your skin and unhappy with the way it looks, take assurance in knowing you can change it. I am living proof – I will be 50 in 18 months and because I’m no longer embarrassed of my skin I show up in all my relationships as my authentic self.

Because of the personal pain I experienced, it’s my mission to make sure you have a great skin day every day.  To do that, it’s incredibly important to use products and ingredients that are appropriate for your skin now.  If you’re 30 and you are starting to see the first signs of wrinkles and discolorations, you won’t be able to reverse those signs of aging by using products designed for younger skin without those concerns. There are really specific changes that happen to your skin once you reach 35, and switching to products that address those changes is key.

If you are experiencing breakouts and wrinkles, you want to make sure the products you’re using won’t clog your pores while they are infusing needed moisture and treatment ingredients into your skin. Ingredients that help boost collagen are a focal point in your skincare routine once you’re in your 30s to help your skin look smoother, younger and more radiant.

Are dark spots and discolorations your main concern?  If so, avoid hydroquinone and opt for Alpha Arbutin. Alpha Arbutin is proven to be safer and more effective at brightening discolorations than hydroquinone and other lighteners.

If you’re self-conscious that your skin is starting to lose its bounce and firmness, targeted collagen boosters can make a visible difference. Lactic acid, growth factors, and retinol are just a few ingredients that can restore firmness and plumpness to the skin.

If you’re frustrated by oily skin or oily breakthrough during the day, hydration is the answer to give you skin confidence.  Often we reach for foaming cleansers or astringent toners that leave the skin dry and tight when we are doing with an oily complexion.  However, dehydrating the skin leads to skin overproducing oil.  Choosing to hydrate your skin will reduce the skin’s oiliness.

The beauty of your skin in your eyes is important because it affects how you feel inside, your self-talk, how you relate to others and how you choose to show up in the world.  Time to get glowing.

Struggling with breakouts over 30

Struggling with breakouts over 30

Struggling with breakouts over 30

Link to video: https://www.facebook.com/VERTERE/videos/304170927105700/

I experienced significant skincare challenges after my 35th birthday.  At that time, I experienced breakouts like a teenager, dark spots that no amount of makeup would hide and real wrinkles for the first time. Even though I knew what ingredients to look for in products because I had been researching skincare ingredients for decades (I made skincare products by my grandmother’s side as a child), it led me to layering four to five products morning and night without seeing any improvement in my skin. I was so frustrated, I took all of my years of ingredient knowledge and made a homemade cream to solve my skin problems. That homemade cream caused total strangers to stop me and compliment my skin just a week after using it, and that’s when I decided to share it with you. That homemade cream is now our patented Dramatic Transformation Cream SPF 18.

I asked on Facebook and Instagram what everyone was struggling with most right now with their skin, breakouts or dark spots? Breakouts were everyone’s issue of the moment, so I wanted to share some tips with you that will really help and direct you to a couple of things that will make a visible difference very quickly for your skin.

Is there anything more frustrating than breaking out when you are an adult when you’re also trying to keep wrinkles in check? It makes taking care of your skin more complicated and it can be a real shot to your self-confidence. You don’t feel comfortable being around people sometimes because you have a breakout, especially depending on the severity. I know, for me, when I was going through that phase, I would cancel plans with friends because I didn’t want to be seen with my skin erupting with blemishes and wrinkles. We all want our skin to look more flawless and we don’t want to have to wear a lot of makeup to achieve that. Sometimes when you apply a lot of makeup to cover up a breakout, it can actually make it look a lot worse and draw more attention to it.

Interestingly enough, adult breakouts are on the rise. A study by the American Academy of Dermatology showed 25% of women in their 40s break out and that figure doubles for women in their 20s. One of the things that really exacerbates breakouts is that when we’re over 30, we’re looking for antiaging products. Often many of those products we’re using to smooth our wrinkles are responsible for our breakouts because they contain pore-clogging ingredients. That’s why I make sure every VERTERE product is free from pore-clogging ingredients. As I’m nearing 50, I’m still breakout-prone and have to be very careful about the ingredients that come into contact with my skin. That’s why I commit to ensuring VERTERE’s products are noncomedogenic, to help prevent you from experiencing breakouts while you’re trying to smooth, lift and firm your skin.

If you tend to be breakout prone like me, it’s important to avoid pore-clogging ingredients in your skincare and makeup products. Isopropyl palmitate is a really big offender that will definitely clog your pores. Isopropyl myristate is another must-avoid ingredient for those struggling with adult acne. Steer clear of these ingredients if you are prone to blemishes.

You can also significantly reduce breakouts by avoiding touching your face throughout the day or resting your chin in your hand. That might sound odd, but our hands come into contact with so many different things – hand lotions with pore-clogging ingredients in them, hair products, dirt, food oils. In my experience (and the experiences of others) you’ll tend to see a blemish where you touched your face. Our hands touch so many things, but avoiding touching your face throughout the day absentmindedly, will make a big difference. It does for me, and it will for you too.

Another powerful breakout prevention tool is this effective two-part approach to make your skin clear, wrinkle-free and bright. The first step is cleansing with our Refining Treatment Cleanser; the first lotion to serum cleanser. It contains 3.2% lactic acid along with several noncomedogenic oils to soften and smooth even dry, dehydrated skin while keeping pores clear. Applying it to wet skin activates the serum; pat skin dry after rinsing so the sheer veil of serum remains. It removes makeup, surface debris, and pollution without stripping your skin so your skin is perfectly hydrated, perfectly balanced.  You’ll see a visible difference in the clarity of your skin within 72 hours and greater brightness and smoothness with continued use.

The second step in this two-part approach is our patented Dramatic Transformation Cream SPF-18. This is the cream that really turned my skin around in a week, causing total strangers to stop me on the street and ask about my skin. With 10% lactic acid, aloe and botanicals, your skin reaps the benefits of deep hydration, wrinkle-smoothing, brightening, clarity and sun protection in a simple step. Our 72-Hour Synergy™ is very evident with this two-part approach.

Don’t despair if you’re experiencing wrinkles and breakouts.  These tips will make a visible difference in your skin.
